We will host a 9th and 10th grade parent meeting tomorrow night, Thursday, February 15th. The ninth grade meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:15. The tenth grade meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:15. These meetings will take place in the mini-theater. We will be educating parents about the registration process, dual enrollment, and CTE offerings. Please visit the cafeteria also where CTE will have information about the 16 pathways we offer. School clubs will also be set up in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there!

This message is for parents of seniors. Please join us tomorrow night, Thursday, February 8th for a Scholarship/FAFSA Informational session from 5:30 to 7:00 in the media center. During this session, staff will share scholarship opportunities available for ACHS seniors including students planning on attending 4 year universities and 2 year community colleges and/or vocational programs. The Avery County School System will operate on a REGULAR SCHEDULE tomorrow, Friday, January 5, 2024. We will have five (5) gravel roads our buses will not travel. On Friday, January 5, 2024, Avery County school buses will not run the following gravel roads:

Students taking Mayland classes: If you are taking a welding course at the Newland campus, or a seated class at our Spruce Pine campus, your classes will start January 4th. If you have an online course that is NOT history, public speaking, or art, your classes will also start January 4th. If you have a Mayland class that is seated at Avery high School, your classes will start the week of January 8th. If you have any questions, please check your Avery email for an email from Mr. O'Hagan about start dates. He will also be in his office in student services this week to answer any questions or assist with logging into your account.

Avery County Schools will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, December 12th. The End of Course tests and CTE exams schedule is as follows: tomorrow we will test English 2 and Math 1 end of course tests, Wednesday we will test Biology and Math 3 end of course tests, Thursday and Friday will be CTE exams and end of course test make ups. Students who are taking end of course tests and/or CTE exams need to be present on testing days. Please call the school with any questions. Thank you and have a good evening.

Avery High's final exams will begin this week and continue through next week. Teacher made exams will be given this Thursday and Friday. Students are expected to come to school Thursday and Friday. End of Course tests and CTE exams will be given next week. The English 2 and Math 1 End of Course tests will be on Monday, December 11th. The Biology and Math 3 End of Course tests will be on Tuesday, December 12th. CTE exams will be given on Wednesday, December 13th and Thursday, December 14th. On Tuesday, November 7th, all sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be testing. Students will be taking one of the following tests: Pre-ACT, WorKeys, ASVAB, or CCRAA. All freshmen students will be touring the campus of Appalachian State University on this day. There is no charge for freshmen to go on this field trip. All freshmen have been given a permission slip that needs to be signed and returned by this Friday. If freshmen choose to not go on this field trip, they will need to stay home on Tuesday, as all school staff will be involved with testing for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Thank you.

Come out tonight to support our Men's Soccer team as they play Murphy in the first playoff game! The game begins at 6:00. Since this is a playoff game, the adult and student athletic passes will not be accepted for admission. Admission is $7.00. Children 6 and under get in free. Go VIKINGS!
