Avery County Schools

PowerSchool alerted North Carolina public schools to a cybersecurity incident affecting student and teacher data across their global client base, which includes school systems in multiple states. This is not an issue specific to North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) informed us that PowerSchool confirmed the threat had been contained and the compromised data had been destroyed. Individuals impacted by this data breach will receive a letter from PowerSchool. PowerSchool has confirmed that there were no actions that Avery County Schools or NCDPI could have taken to prevent this cybersecurity incident.
