The Board of Education conducts its regular meeting the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Central Services office located at 775 Cranberry Street in Newland. Special Board meetings are held on occasion and will be announced at least 48 hours in advance on this website and to local news media. 

Citizens wishing to speak with the Board should contact the Superintendent’s Office at (828) 733-6006 six days prior to the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting. The request to address the Board must include the name/s of the individual/group wishing to speak, an address and phone number of the person(s), and a description of the topic or subject matter to be presented.

***Please note that matters involving individual students, school personnel, or legal issues cannot be addressed in open session. These matters should be presented to the superintendent and Board of Education in writing, signed by the complainant. An investigation and response will then follow. ***

Each speaker is limited to a maximum of three minutes. A group should designate one person to be the spokesman and speak on the groups behalf. Interruption or interference with orderly conduct of Board of Education business will not be allowed. Speakers should understand that board members will not respond to individuals who address the board except to request clarification of points made by the presenter.
