  • Introduction to Plants

    • Semester: Fall and Spring

    • Instructor: Blackburn

Start your FFA journey in Intro to Plants and learn about plant growth and development, plant nutrition, media/soil selection, plant identification, pest management, chemical disposal, customer relations, and career opportunities.  The High Country has limitless opportunities in landscaping, nursery production, turfgrass, and owning your own business.  You will have 3 options for level 2 and you can take all 3!  There is no final exam and grades will be based on your performance and a portfolio.

  • Landscape Construction 

    • Semester: Fall

    • Instructor: Blackburn

This course provides hands-on instruction in landscape design, identifying landscape plants, and planting/maintaining trees, shrubs, and turf. Landscape construction is emphasized in the areas of grading and drainage, irrigation, paver installation, and the use/maintenance of landscape equipment. There is no final exam and grades will be based on your performance and a portfolio.

  • Plant Production

    • Semester: Spring

    • Instructor: Blackburn

Let’s grow some plants from start to finish…and get an HONORS credit!  This course covers greenhouse plant production and management, bedding plant production, watering systems, light effects, basic landscape design, installation and maintenance, lawn and turf grass management, and personal development. We will also create several types of floral designs.  There is no final exam and grades will be based on your performance and a portfolio.

  • Turfgrass Management                                                          

    • Semester: Spring

Turfgrass Management Honors is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of turfgrass science as related to the turfgrass industry.
