On Friday, September 15th, Freedom Trail and Cranberry Middle will have a school wide hat day with all proceeds going to Erin Carver, a former teacher with Avery County Schools. Erin was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and we want to show all of our support during this difficult time. Students may wear a hat for $1 but we encourage you to send extra if you can. Avery County is known for taking care of our own and we also know the family will appreciate your help. Please keep the Carver family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you in advance!

Reminder that Monday Aug 28 is School Picture Day here at CMS. All students will be photographed for a yearbook photo so students should come prepared for that. Please feel free to call the school if you have any questions. Thank you!
We had a great time at our first Wildcat Celebration. The Back to School Bash included ice breakers, snow cones, face painting and a Photo Booth. It was great to have all the staff and students together celebrating the start of a great school year.
Attention any 6th, 7th or 8th grader:
Middle school cross country will begin this week! Practice is at Avery High and we have a bus that takes students from CMS to the high school for athletics in the afternoon.
Practice will be this week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday until 4pm. Students need to be picked up at the high school field house. Parents can email coach Ashley Condrey at ashleycondrey@averyschools.net with any questions.

Soccer practice is canceled for Thursday due to weather.
All afternoon activities and practices are canceled for this afternoon due to impending severe weather. Our area is expected to have large hail, strong winds and power outages.
CMS Volleyball will have practice Tuesday from 3-5pm
Soccer will have practice Tuesday from 3:30-5:30pm.
CMS 8th grade band students!
There are now opportunities for Avery County 8th grade band members to participate in the 2023 Viking Band marching show! Starting next Tuesday, August 1, we invite all interested 8th graders to the High School Band Hall from 11 am to 1:45 pm. CMS students and families (especially rising 6th graders and any other students who are new to CMS):
On our first day of school, Monday Aug 14, students will come in the bus entrance and report to either the gym or cafeteria, depending on if they want to eat breakfast or not. We will have CMS staff there to welcome everyone and get all students with their TAG teacher to start the day. Schedules will be distributed by TAG teachers and our new students will be reminded about the location of classes if needed.
We're excited about this upcoming year! It's going to be a great one!
