Staff from Riverside Elementary School and the Avery County North Carolina Cooperative Extension Center visited the Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk's meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17, to provide updates on the school's agricultural education initiatives. The Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk Foundation supported the project, which included installing raised garden beds, a greenhouse and a 4-H Club at Riverside Elementary School. RES principal Whitney Baird, third grade teacher Kelly Byrd, and Extension Agent Bobbie Willard each presented at the meeting, discussing the progress of the project so far, how it has benefitted the students and what the school has in store for the future.
